10 containers $100 per school year.
20 containers $200 per school year.
30 containers $300 per school year.

Here's how it works:

  1. Rent our custom containers at a very low cost, and place them in visible, convenient locations throughout your school. We have sturdy, leak-proof liner bags available for purchase to hold the material.
  2. Spread the word within your school about your plastic (#1 PET) and aluminum beverage container recycling program. We can help you, with our publicity packages that will contain signs, printed material and video to help you communicate the programs' value and how it works.
  3. Remove each bag as it is filled, tie it and place it in storage for regular pickup at one central location by our trucks.
We'll take it from there! Schupan has processing facilities in Wyoming and Wixom, Michigan where the material will be sorted, shredded and marketed for new use. In addition to our more than 25 years of experience in processing billions of deposit containers yearly in Michigan, Schupan has provided recycling expertise to Michigan State University sports events, NASCAR, Common Ground in Lansing and the Green Street Fair in Plymouth.

Questions and Answers

Are the recycling containers bought or rented?
Rent our custom containers at a very low cost, and place them wherever your school has a trash container. We have sturdy, leak-proof liner bags available for purchase to hold the material.
How many recycling containers are needed?
Choose convenient and visible locations next to your trash receptacles in areas where beverages are consumed. Your recycling program will always work better if it's easy and convenient for people to recycle. A Schupan representative will provide a FREE evaluation to demonstrate the potential cost savings of the program, and can help you determine the proper number of containers to make your recycling program successful, based on the population of your school.
What are the responsibilities of the school?
Remove each bag as it is filled, tie it and place it in a storage area for monthly pickup by our trucks from one central location. Participating schools have found that monthly pickup is most convenient and economical, although additional pickups can be arranged for a fee.

The material to be collected is #1 beverage plastic and aluminum only. All other materials are considered contaminants and can cause the entire bag to be discarded. As a benefit to your school, you can organize volunteers to separate all plastic or aluminum deposit containers and redeem them for cash. In some districts, student organizations handle the recovery of deposit containers.
How much does the program cost the school district?
Your school can begin its plastic and aluminum recycling effort for less than $400 for the entire school year. The program includes 10 recycling containers leased at $100 for the school year and pickup of the collected material from a central location at an additional cost of $65 per pickup. Some participating schools have found four pickups during the school year to be sufficient.

We'll provide a short walk-through of the process at the time of the container delivery in order to get the program started right. For larger schools, packages including 20 and 30 recycling containers are also available.
How can schools increase their recycling efforts with this program?
The program will provide marketing and PR materials for your school to spread the word to students, staff, parents and the public. Our DVD, which can be used to introduce the program and is available to all schools, contains footage of our processing facilities and recycling facts.

Some schools have used student environmental clubs or science classes to take the lead in promoting the program, which can be a very effective educational approach.
Why is this recycling program better, when the types of materials recycled are so limited?
The program is better because it is effective. Many recycling programs are based on single-stream recycling, where all recyclable materials are mixed together and then sorted manually and mechanically. Contamination can often occur, ruining the recyclable material and causing it to be buried in the landfill. The recovered material tends to be of low quality. Since we are the processor for all of the material we collect, we have developed specialized equipment and expertise to sort material, shred it and market it for new use. Schupan has the best quality control methods and standards in the industry.
How can our school justify the expense of this program when budgets are so tight?
1. Recycling #1 PET bottles and aluminum cans may be a money-saving idea for your district, as it may reduce your trash volume significantly and decrease your trash removal expense. A Schupan representative can provide a FREE evaluation to demonstrate these potential savings.

2. We can suggest ways that you may be able to reduce your expenses for the program. For schools in the areas of our processing facilities, you can arrange to drop off the material yourself and save the pickup fee of $65. Our processing facilities are located in Wyoming, Wixom, and Kalamazoo MI. Drop-offs would require an advance call to our plants to arrange an appointment time. Please see below for locations and contact information.
